… and here we are. The story so far, of how we have landed exactly where we are today: the launch of Bambinos Club, a new time-giving, on-demand and family-centric platform, designed to change the way parents find the best love and care for their little bambino.
To give you some context, allow me, Shelley Chief Bambino to paint the picture for you.
Here’s the thing. I’ve been a babysitter for as long as I can remember. Make that 15 years to be exact! To me, the eyes of wonder, the little bear hugs (yep, even with the sticky hands!), and the feeling you get when you realise they’ve waited ALL week to tell you that one fact. That’s what makes them the biggest source of happiness and inspiration. I love kids. There, I said it. I was that friend who would jump up and down when you say you’d like someone to babysit little Oscar while you have date night. I was that 2nd cousin that you’d recommend to your colleagues as the “all-round nurturer”, “extremely good with the kids” and “modern day Mary Poppins”. And apparently? According to someone who I have recently met? I’ve even had the whole - “you make me want to have kids, so that I can literally call you and have you babysit them.” (#truestory #brbblushing)The truth is, when families needed time and support? I was there.
But it took me an extremely nonlinear journey to realise that this was in fact my “purpose” and what I should be doing. I went through the last few years of dipping in and out of Corporate. I went from EA to the CEO’s to Office Manager and climbed the corporate ladder. And don’t get me wrong. It was rewarding. I was learning. I was challenged. However, something was always missing. I’d land that dream role, but then realise that still isn't it. I’d be working with the most extraordinary CEO and team, but still felt unfulfilled and unhappy. So for me, I babysat on the side. And what finally clicked for me? Was when I found that I enjoyed what I was doing on the side more-so than my 9-5. Everytime I paused to reflect, I was pulled back to the one constant “happy” in my life: little bambinos.
Looking after littles, and babysitting was my biggest love. To me though, it was never about simply ‘supervision’. It was about taking the time to build connections and ultimately? Become an extension of the family’s brain.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about asking ‘when’ I can help them. But knowing them so well that I was able to anticipate the ‘how’. The helping out plan little Jessica’s 5th Princess Extravaganza Birthday Party. The folding of clothes that were just hanging on the floordrobe. Heck. Even knowing a family’s bin days to be Wednesdays so if the bins weren’t out? You minus that stress for them and wheel that bin out as you finish for the day on a Tuesday.
I’ve always believed that this was what being a babysitter was all about. Lifestyle-centric. So that it’s about giving back a whole lot of ‘lifestyle’ back into one’s life, instead of seeing having a miracle little bambino be seen as a stress factor. And I wanted to create something that would match-make parents with sitters who shared the same view as me.
Of course, there were agencies and job listing apps that could link parents and sitters together, but the whole process seemed disjointed to me. But because not one platform I felt shared that same ‘why’ as I did, I decided to create it.
And so, Bambinos Club was born.
Bambinos Club is a no-fuss time-giving, family-centric platform to revolutionise the way parents find the best love and care for their little ones. When it came to prototyping this platform, I knew it had to be not only a familiar-feeling welcoming club, but one that was also hard to get into.
In other words, this meant that all sitters had to be verified with police-checks, working with children checks and a first aid certificate at the very least. No ifs. No buts. This was to ensure that Bambinos Club was trusted by both parents and sitters through the anchoring of integrity, trust and real-life referrals into the digital world.
